About Prospect Farm

Prospect Farm is run by husband and wife team, Lane and Meryl Nevins. The Nevins started farming with a dream of cultivating the land and building a better future for our region's food system. Seven years later, they have planted roots in the community and are working a historic farm in Lunenburg, VT that they now own. Their mission is to offer accessible, affordable and honest meat of exceptional quality.

This diversified livestock farm, in the Connecticut River Valley, is committed to raising heritage breed animals, humanely and holistically in harmony with nature. They use rotational grazing patterns that mimic each animal's natural lifestyle, providing them with the healthiest living environment. By doing what comes naturally Prospect Farm is able to offer their beloved region honest, pasture-based meat of exceptional quality. Raised the way they should be!

"The St. Johnsbury Farmers' Market has been a wonderful opportunity to introduce ourselves to the community since we move from NH to VT. We love this market!" - Meryl Nevins

Their Story

The Nevins both grew up in New Hampshire and went to college in Maine. Through their studies the Nevins have traveled the country, lived out west, hit the road following music, studied art and literature, but ultimately decided on a more self-sufficient lifestyle. After college they shifted gears and began studying the farmers who came before us, they connected them to a lifestyle that just seemed right. Now many books later and nearly a decade under their belts, things feel in place, and they so are honored to be here.

On the farm, Lane manages the pasture, developing systems, and builds infrastructure. He's now a master at fencing, and rotating animals through the fields. Off the farm, Lane is an avid fly fisherman, sourdough baker, and cross country skier.

Meryl has a passion for animal health and diet. She's also the farm's midwife, assisting with births, managing the breeding and birthing schedule, and learning about genetics. Outside of the farm business Meryl's into cooking, skiing, and weaving.
