Meet the Vendor: Inch By Inch Permaculture

Their Story

Inch By Inch Permaculture is a small scale farm in Wheelock, Vermont run by Nick and Olivia Heltzel. Nick is certified in Permaculture Design through D’Acres which informs the way they run and design their farm. Nick and Olivia practice no-till farming, plant on contour, plant in polycultures, create food forests, sustainably forage wild edibles and base their designs off of nature. They use appropriate technologies including scything their green spaces and broad forking garden beds. The Heltzels currently grow vegetables, flowers and herbs, raise laying hens and recently welcomed two pigs to their home. They have also planted an assortment of fruit trees and bushes to provide for the future and can’t stop themselves from investing in more perennials.

Off the farm, Nick works at Black Dirt Farm where he assists in the production of worm castings and compost and tends to the laying hens. He also hand carves wooden spoons, bowls and cutting boards  which they also sell at the market. Olivia works at All About Flowers in St Johnsbury as a floral designer, you can often see her home grown flowers and arrangements at the market.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way! We have grown so much in the last four years but still have plenty to learn. We look forward to continuing to provide quality produce to the community."
